Hell Gao is the first-named Great Demon whose name has been known since the prologue.

Introduction[]

Hell Gao has an overwhelming appearance with a bizarre face shrouded in black flames and a wielding staff with blowing hot winds. He is the owner and master of hellfire which never goes out and burns everything down to ashes, hotter than the jade flames of most great demons. Being once the 9th strongest among the 33 great demons of Hell, stronger than all outside the 15th rank combined, even Muller couldn't seal the summoned Hell Gao perfectly 150 years ago. Hell Gao's current body is no longer his original body to exert his true strength, a soul without a body. The source of his power, the Fire Stone, appears in the human world and by borrowing the body of a demonkin in hell which he also has as subordinates, Hell Gao is able to materialize in the middle world. He also tries to increase his strength by ingesting the souls of humans.

Hell Gao once ruled Cokro Island perfectly to feed on the ancestors living there. Thousands of people were sacrificed to him until Muller defeated him. As a boss monster, the weakened Hell Gao descends every two weeks on the 4th floor of Cokro Island Dungeon to seize human souls in an unspecified interval. His roars cause fear, chaos, debilitating effects, and his fire halves heat resistance and he detects stealth abilities. Hell Gao shows strength in close combat and magic by wielding his staff and using hellfire directly to attack at 0.3-second intervals. The released black fire with increasing heat launch black flames in every direction. It is an inevitable fire AOE magic to turn the whole area into a sea of fire. Fire Stone can be mined during his appearance to weaken him. But wounded, he scatters blood like lava with unpleasant smell to inflict damage.[4]

Story[]

Prologue[]

Hell Gao appeared before the Silver Knights Guild and Grid to kill the guild members. But Grid seemed fine against Hell Gao’s debuff effects and started mining, minding his own business. Peak Sword of the Silver Knights Guild then asked Grid how he was able to survive, to which he answers: "It's the item effect" (litteral translation is "I’m overgeared").

Chapter 163-167[]

Grid appeared at Corkro Island on behalf of Toban in order to go mining the necessary Fire Stones (3 of them) required for the Fire Shield production method Toban gave him. Toban actually needed that shield in preparation of the Phoenix raid the Tzedakah guild was planning to do at the time. After figuring out that the Fire Stones were diectly related to Hell Gao's source of power, Grid made Peak Sword start mining the remaining Fire Stones since he already had successfully mined one Fire Stone prior to getting into the battle. Grid finally decided to raid Hell Gao alongside Peak Sword and successfully defeated him after a harsh battle. Grid unfortunately managed to only mine 2 of the 3 Fire Stones he promised to Toban and actually looted a certain pet from Hell Gao.

Chapter 1316-1319[]

After more than 5 years (15 years in game), Grid decided to pay a visit to Cokro Island for the sake of checking the soil. Indeed, Piaro actually told Grid that in order to plant the famous Golden Walnuts, the only ground suitable in the territories owned by the Overgeared Kingdom was on Cokro's Island. While visiting the island and being accompanied by Mercedes, Grid then went to raid Hell Gao once again. While appearing with 7 Fire Stones instead of the previous 3 ones in Grid's first raid against Hell Gao, the Great Demon actually remembered Grid, making him earn a new title. While Grid kept battling Hell Gao alongside with his faithful Legendary Knight companion, Grid managed to trigger a new Epic. While entering his final stage in the progressing raid, Hell Gao officially recognized Grid's name and strength then after one last trade of blows, he was finally defeated after Grid launched his rain of battlegears on him. In the aftermath, Hell Gao was said to have recovered 50% of his prime before getting sealed by Muller and having a level close to 600. Grid then decided that in the future, he would completely destroy Hell Gao with Ruby’s power the moment Hell Gao would summon his 8th Fire Stone.

Chapter 1415[]

While Grid was in the process of making a new sword, Lauel being concerned about Grid’s mood who kept logging in and out for some reason (Grid was actually reaching the 48h in game timer which would then force him to log out), began to misunderstand his king’s behavior and interpreted it as Grid being frustrated to fail his new creation while keeping new attempts of making the sword. Lauel then warned the Overgeared members to watch for their words around Grid in case it would deteriorate his mood any further otherwise Lauel would send them to Cokro Island to fight Hell Gao. In order to safely raid him, Grid or all the Overgeared Guild’s raid teams had to be dispatched. Throwing someone there meant killing them. The Overgeared members heard Lauel’s voice and realized he was sincere, causing them to seriously answer in the guild chat window. In the midst of some clumsy cheering attempts according to Lauel, Regas and Vantner got forcefully sent to fight Hell Gao on his orders with the help of Faker as a punishment.

Chapter 1426-1427[]

After invading Hell with the help of Yura in order to raid the different Great Demons residing there, Grid finally reached the 20th Hell and got hit with some penalties that were so severe despite using all the means and methods to reduce penalties that he once again realized how excellent the title ‘Recognition of the 9th Great Demon’ that he obtained from Hell Gao was. Then for the sake of raiding the higher Hells in the future, Grid thought that he would have to instruct his messengers to raid Hell Gao so they could also earn the same title. After being forcefully ejected from Hell by Marbas, Grid started to overhaul the Overgeared raid teams that were frequently farming Hell Gao by putting each of his messengers as leaders of the different teams.

Chapter 1442[]

Grid sent his 6 messengers to face Hell Gao together and alone for the first time. The Hell Gao raid then didn't unfold as expected even if the dugeon raid was still achieved : Braham stayed on stand by to let his companion get some experience, Zikfrector actually slept on the spot where the Fire Stones were summoned because of his curse and Mercedes only managed to mine one Fire Stone for a long while because of Zikfrector being protected by his rune magic and blocking the access to the stones. Grid summarized Nefelina’s words: Braham sat on the sidelines during the battle, Zikfrector did nothing, and Mercedes failed to remove the Fire Stones in time. In other words, the other three people Nefelina, Sariel, and Piaro had a tough battle.

Chapter 1450[]

While checking the conditions of use from Granting an Ego, Grid wondered if he could actually call a soul he already met in the past and naturally thought about Hell Gao. Grid then experimented his skill on Hell Gao's soul to see if this one would actually respond to his call. The Great Demon, firstly snorting and amused about being called by an enemy, began to get annoyed, telling him to knock it off and to do it in moderation. Grid started thinking if he could annoy Hell Gao enough so that the Great Demon would answer even if it was only to curse him.
