The Legendary Blacksmith's Patience is one of the default skills acquired by Grid after becoming Pagma's Descendant.

Information[]

Legendary Blacksmith's Patience denotes being able to immerse oneself in the actions of a Blacksmith without complaining. In an intensified way it is enjoying the labor as blacksmith to the point of addiction.[1] One of the important things when making battle gear is patience and devotion[2], as well as Persistence.[3] As the hammering progresses, the skills slowly become more and more sophisticated to complete the actions while enduring short breaths, numb arms and hot skin. The concentration on the work is intensified as the Stamina falls as well.[4] In such a state, the tremendous skill increases the concentration, stamina and defense to the peak for an hour.[5] The weariness in the body will disappear, feeling refreshed. The effect is similar to the vigor felt whenever eating cereals with milk. The increased concentration is noticeable in the work[6] and stays at its highest level. The blacksmith is not tired at all and can devote oneself to working without a break.[7] The patience effect makes the work easier.[8]

Patience Incidence[]

The patience skill is initially conditional and cannot be activated selectively.[9] Nor can it be used intentionally, but is triggered when extreme patience is shown.[10] For unlucky people, the skill has a terrible activation condition that is rarely experienced due to the low probability when focusing on making items.[11] It cannot be achieved simply by raising the concentration. One must be lucky.[12] The patience effect has a much lower rate of activating than the Legendary Blacksmith's Breath.[13] But then all the fatigue from tirelessly working would disappear, filling up the flashing stamina gauge while reducing the fatigue.[14] During the competition against the blacksmithing god Hexetia, the legendary blacksmith's patience has been changed to a passive skill. Based on that power the effect will always be maintained when making items and the concentration reaches the limit.[15]

From Patience to Commitment[]

For the conditional passive version, the optimal trigger condition is when a blacksmith as Grid is in a world of his own, one which consistes only of him, his hammer, the anvil, fire and metal.[16] Mulling over the design, discussing, responding to all sorts of variables, and repeating the same task for days and days.[17] Even when a monster with the power of a Great Demon shocks the earth as if it would collapse, the focus is solely on the work. In not a single moment is shown agitation or awareness of a battle that is taking place.[18] Upon reaching this level, the skill is activated almost non-stop so that it is close to passive.[19]

The next higher stage after entering the own world of craftsmanship is enduring great pain and devoting oneself to blacksmithing despite the cost of the life. Beyond the occupation, the blacksmith is compelled to finish the action even if the body turns into ashes.[20] Like a grim warrior on the battlefield who has been wounded[21], the hammering continues on the anvil without stopping while blood flows or is coughed up.[22] The blacksmith must fight to the end, even if losing and knowing that the life is about to end.[23] It may look stupid, but true Craftsmen are proud of it, because it is their thing.[24]

For a legendary blacksmith to let go of the hammer in the hand is an unacceptable sin.[25] While focusing and enduring, the patience reaches a new realm of commitment that overcomes the limitations of relying on technique. It is an area that cannot be understand by someone who solves all problems with ‘technique.’[26] The maker's commitment breaks the limits to produce a result that has a higher rating than the production method and far exceeds the expectations.[27] Even beginner blacksmiths with commitment and a desire to work can achieve Enlightenment and overcome their limitations in one night to rise all the way to an advanced blacksmith. The last desperate effort will be rewarded.[28]

Blacksmithing while Fighting[]

A determined legendary blacksmith pulles out a Portable Furnace and a Blacksmith Hammer even throughout a fight to repair the items that has been damaged. The increased Defense while fighting allows to endure it. The work continues perseveringly and by lifting the hammer, attacks are prevented.[29]

The legendary skill is not only available during the blacksmithing process, but also in combat actions without using a hammer in the hand, where the same trigger conditions apply.[30] Which means that there is no way to use the skill active to overcome a crisis.[31] The skill cannot be used intentionally, but it is triggered when showing extreme patience in combat.[32] It is triggered in those moments in which the unique commitment appears where the fight itself is seen as labor. If the raid fails today, it will be different next time.[33]

Notes[]

  • According to the description and the system messages, the dexterity is supposed to increase. But so far no indication has been given in contexts.
  • The author said that the skill is passive. But it cannot be unconditional because otherwise the skill would always be active, even when Grid is not blacksmithing.
